Itaewon Class Thai remake: GMMTV casts Sky Wongravee in the lead

GMMTV is making an Itaewon Class Thai remake, titled Itaewon Class Thai Edition, with Sky Wongravee in the lead. The Bangkok studio announced it on 3 November 2026 at its GMMTVNEXT: GENERATION HAPPY showcase at Union Hall, Union Mall, and SLL, the Korean studio behind the original, confirmed the remake deal this week. The channel, platform and premiere date are to be announced.

Cast and director

GMMTV’s press release lists eight cast members: Sky Wongravee, Nycha Nuttanicha, Film Rachanun, Jimmy Jitaraphol, Mark Pakin, Surf Patchara, Nok Sinjai and Nonny Nutcha. Off Noppanach Chaiwimol directs.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, Sky plays the main protagonist. The other actors’ roles have not been announced.

What changes in the Thai version

GMMTV describes the series as the hit Korean drama reinterpreted for Thai society. Korea JoongAng Daily reports that the remake keeps the main characters’ personalities and the story’s central themes, adds local cultural elements, and turns a supporting businessman character into a woman.

The original Itaewon Class (2020) was produced by SLL and aired on JTBC, adapted from Kakao Entertainment’s webtoon. It follows a young man who builds his own business and takes on an established restaurant empire, as C21Media summarises it. Japan’s TV Asahi aired a remake in 2022.

Itaewon Class Thailand and SLL

The deal is SLL’s second Thai remake after SKY Castle, which aired on ONE31. In SLL’s words, the new deal “strengthens SLL’s presence in Thailand.”

Itaewon Class Thai Edition was one of many titles GMMTV showed at the GMMTVNEXT event, where the studio presented its GMMTV 2027 line-up. Our report on fashion and events in Bangkok this week covers the showcase itself, and the Thai BL series guide lists GMMTV titles you can watch now.
