Bangkok Art Biennale 2026

The fifth Bangkok Art Biennale is titled Angels & Mara and sets ideas of goodness against temptation and the darker sides of human nature. The organiser lists 72 artists, among them Bill Viola, Yasumasa Morimura, Liu Jianhua, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, Leiko Ikemura and Udom Taephanich, with Apinan Poshyananda as artistic director.

Its 11 listed venues are Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Wat Prayoon, the National Museum Bangkok, the Art Centre at Silpakorn University, Museum Siam, BACC, Alliance Française Bangkok, One Bangkok, centralwOrld and Siam Paragon. The organiser’s pages do not state a biennale-wide admission charge or common hours, so check each venue before setting out.

At BACC

The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is the largest biennale venue, with more than 100 works listed. The centre is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 and closed on Mondays. Biennale live art also runs here: our this week on stage listing has the dates for the performance A Fallen Petal Floating on the River of Time.

Exhibitions at MOCA Bangkok

SUDO RUNGU: Echoes of Fire is the first solo exhibition in Thailand by the Indonesian artist Roby Dwi Antono, curated by Loredana Pazzini Paracciani. It starts from memories of his father’s forge and uses painting, drawing, photography, video and participatory pieces to ask how fading sounds are remembered. It fills Temporary Exhibitions 1 to 3 and the ground-floor atrium.

Front & Back: The Art of the Steal is built on open appropriation. Tawatchai Somkong reworks pieces by 34 artists, signs the front himself and has each original artist sign the back, raising the question of who owns a work when everyone has agreed. It closes on 22 November.

MOCA opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00. General admission is 400 baht for adults and 120 baht for students with ID, with free entry for under-13s, people aged 60 and over and people with disabilities; the museum notes that this ticket excludes special exhibitions.

Jim Thompson Art Center and Nova Contemporary

And Still, Another After gathers emerging Thai artists born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s: Bhumikorn Kongtaveelert with Anna Golubkova, Pitchada Poolsawad, Piyatida Piyamassakul, Pakapat Limlertphonboon, Sareena Sattapon, Nat Setthana, Marisa Srijunpleang and PLERN VERN. Through video, photography, sound and installation, they look at how labour, migration and landscape carry the after-effects of earlier crises such as the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. The show runs across the art centre and the William Warren Library.

Blazing is a painting show by Chetsada Phuwiang, who is also on the biennale’s artist list. Working in sand, oil, acrylic and airbrush, he paints bodies that appear only in part, drawing on queer nightlife to think about desire and belonging. The gallery is at 86 Si Phraya Road, Bang Rak.

Bangkok Kunsthalle

Bright at Midnight is described by its organisers as the first institutional presentation of the Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader’s work in Thailand and Asia. Curated by Leonardo Orion Dal Colle with Meliksetian | Briggs and the artist’s estate, it places works made between 1970 and 1975 inside the former printing house on Pantachit Alley.

The Kunsthalle’s own website could not be reached on 6 November, so these details come from the exhibition press release and Time Out Bangkok, which lists free entry. The release gives opening days as Wednesday to Sunday, 14:00 to 20:00.

River City Bangkok galleries

River City is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00, and three shows overlap this month. STILL : ON, in RCB Galleria 5 until 15 November, treats the brain as a hidden system and links it to city life, technology and the constant flow of information. Tickets are sold through Ticketmelon; the price is not given on the exhibition page.

Beyond the Rainbow fills more than 1,000 square metres of RCB Galleria 1 and 2 with interactive zones about life with animal companions, and visitors may bring a pet in a stroller or carrier. From 20 November, Only by Changing in RCB Galleria 3 is the illustrator Viput A.’s first solo show, with acrylic paintings that use motion blur to play movement against stillness; entry is free.

Planning a visit

Most venues close on Mondays, apart from the Jim Thompson Art Center and River City, which open daily. Nova Contemporary also closes on Sundays, and Bangkok Kunsthalle on Mondays and Tuesdays. More art and heritage coverage is on our culture page.
